Claude Max and Team reach beyond chat
Max 5x includes $100 in monthly API credits, Max 20x $200, and Team up to $500 pooled, usable on any Claude model.

Claude Max and Team now include monthly API credits. The change gives us a credit allowance for API use alongside the familiar chat context: a way to bring Claude into an app or workflow, rather than another model to choose.
We chat. Our app makes a request.
An API is the connection software uses to ask a model for an answer.
We can ask Claude to summarise a set of notes in chat. In an app, our software sends the notes and an instruction to a model through an API, then uses the answer in its own workflow.
The monthly credits are an allowance for that API use. The amount depends on the named plan, with a shared maximum for Team.

Three plans, with a shared Team maximum
These dollar amounts describe monthly API credits, not subscription prices.
The announcement on 8 October 2026 sets out $100 in monthly API credits for Max 5x and $200 for Max 20x. Team includes up to $500 in pooled monthly API credits.
The Team allowance is shared. Its ‘up to $500’ maximum is not a $500 allowance for each seat.

The amounts and the model choice
ClaudeDevs sets out the monthly allowances and confirms that the credits can be used on any Claude model.
The announcement brings the amounts and their scope together in two sentences. ‘Monthly’ gives the period; ‘up to’ and ‘pooled’ define the Team allowance.
The update in its original context
The official ClaudeDevs announcement was published on 8 October 2026.
The ClaudeDevs post also links to the full terms for how the monthly API credits work. It is the place to start for the announcement and its accompanying terms.

A plan allowance for API use
Max or Team provides monthly API credits; those credits can be used on any Claude model.
The relationship is straightforward: the named plan carries a monthly API-credit allowance, and the credits can be used on any Claude model. Our app’s request is where the API connection comes into the picture.
Model choice and credit amount are separate parts of the benefit. ‘Any Claude model’ describes where the credits can be used; the plan determines the allowance.

Start with one task we already know
Match our plan to its allowance, choose a small app task and read the full terms before setup.
We begin with our plan: Max 5x has $100 in monthly API credits, Max 20x $200, and Team up to $500 pooled. Those are credit allowances, so we keep them separate from what a subscription costs.
For a first app idea, we might choose something familiar, such as turning rough meeting notes into a summary and action list. That gives us a concrete request to think through without trying to build an entire system at once.
Before setup, we can read the [full terms linked in the announcement](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17154008-monthly-api-credits-for-max-and-team-plans).

Give our next request a home in an app
The practical shift is from asking Claude ourselves to planning how our software could ask.
For us, the useful starting point is a task we can describe clearly. A small app idea makes the distinction between chat and API use tangible: what goes into the request, what should come back, and what our software does with it.
The prompt below turns meeting notes into that planning exercise. It keeps the app idea separate from credit setup and makes no estimate of what the allowance will buy.
Start with a task we understand, then work out what our app needs to ask Claude.
Altior · Editorial takeaway
Turn a chat task into a small app idea
Help us plan one small app that uses the Claude API to turn rough meeting notes into a concise summary and a list of actions. Use this fictional example: ‘Website review: Maya will draft the homepage by Friday. Ben will check the contact form. We have not decided the launch date.’ Describe the app in one paragraph, then explain in plain English what an API is and what our app would send to a Claude model. Write an example request instruction and show the expected answer using only the supplied notes. Keep undecided details explicit and do not invent deadlines. Finish by separating the app’s responsibilities from the model’s task. Claude Max 5x includes $100 in monthly API credits, Max 20x $200, and Team up to $500 pooled, usable on any Claude model. Treat these as credit allowances, not subscription prices. Do not estimate request counts, purchasing power or savings, and do not provide credit activation or redemption instructions.Ready to copy
